Project Description
This project aims to improve Myanmar’s ability to reform laws policies and judicial practices as well as strengthen national capacity to promote rule of law and address accountability for human rights violations. Project activities include: (1) conducting and supporting research and legal analysis of country specific cases to raise awareness and draw broader support on identified barriers to redress and accountability; (2) building national capacities of judges prosecutors investigators lawyers civil society organization and victims’ representatives on the rights to remedies and redress for serious human rights violations; and (3) promoting and engaging local national and international advocacy efforts aimed at achieving accountability or remedies and reparation for victims and their families.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved conformity with international obligations to respect and protect human rights for Myanmar; (2) increased capacity of local stakeholders including judges prosecutors investigators media and civil society organizations to promote the rule of law and address accountability for human rights violations; and (3) increased knowledge on legal issues related to justice and accountability for the general Myanmar population.
