Expected Results
The expected outcome for this project is empowered Rohingya survivors and survivor advocates that are able to fully participate in society.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved at the end of the project (March 2025) include: (1) conducted 150 interviews (58 women 86 men and 6 Hijra) with witnesses and survivors of genocide including survivors of sexual and gender based violence (SGBV). This helped to raise the voices of the Rohingya community in efforts to pursue accountability for crimes perpetrated in Myanmar; (2) completed 70 witness statements (17 women 52 men and 1 Hijra) with support from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Of this total 41 have been used by The Gambia in their submissions detailing evidence of genocide. Also shared updates on the international justice proceedings and extended support for accessing medical or psychosocial services with survivors through the project’s network of 58 survivor advocates (22 men survivor advocates 33 women ‘Shanti Mohila’ and Peace Women and 3 hijra survivor advocates) who are living in the camps in Cox’s Bazar; and (3) published a report on long term consequences of genocidal SGBV committed against Rohingya.
