Global Infrastructure Hub - Institutional Support 2019-2022

This grant represents Canada’s long-term institutional support to the Global Infrastructure Hub (GI Hub). GI Hub uses these funds along with other donors’ funding to achieve its mandate. The GI Hub was created by the G20 in 2014 to help deliver its infrastructure agenda. GI Hub’s mandate is to work collaboratively with governments around the world the private sector multilateral development banks international organisations and other stakeholders to increase the quality and quantity of infrastructure globally. The GI Hub shares data knowledge and leading practices and helps the public and private sectors work more closely to deliver crucial public infrastructure projects. The GI Hub’s Strategic Plan 2019-2022 defines five areas of work: data and knowledge development development of standardized approaches risk mitigation and credit enhancements focused country engagements and knowledge networking. This funding also includes $5 million to establish the Global Centre for Infrastructure Excellence to support joint initiatives and partnerships with the private sector to build capacity and mobilize financing into emerging markets and developing economies’ infrastructure.

The strategic priorities as stated by the Global Infrastructure Hub include: (1) supporting the development and delivery of the G20’s infrastructure agenda; (2) addressing information asymmetries and promoting collaboration; and (3) working with public and private sector partners including the multilateral development banks and international organizations to identify knowledge and tools that assist countries as they deal with frequently-encountered but challenging infrastructure delivery issues.
