Project Description
The project aims to create a funding facility dedicated to empowering women and girls to participate in the Lebanese economy contributing to inclusive economic growth in the Mashreq region. The Facility is doing this by providing technical support and funding for strategic regional and country-level initiatives based on Action Plans developed by the respective governments in collaboration with the private sectors and civil society and supported by the international community. The project is identifying and addressing gender constraints to women’s full participation in society and improving women’s access to economic opportunities. This is one of three parts of the Mashreq Gender Facility project in Iraq Jordan and Lebanon which has a total budget of $10 million.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) gender constraints to women’s full participation in society in Lebanon are identified and addressed; and (2) women’s access to economic opportunities in the Mashreq are improved through the implementation of country-level action plans.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of December 2023 include: (1) reached over 3.8 million viewers through the “reaching our full potential” campaign to challenge stereotypes about women in the workplace and men in the household; (2) published the Comprehensive Assessment of the Childcare Landscape in Lebanon to support increased access to childcare; (3) supported 43 women entrepreneurs to attend a legal workshop for rural women in the agrifood business in support of their ability to export products; (4) supported 25 non-governmental organization representatives to attend a training of trainers on rights and obligations under the Labour Code; and (5) supported 8 companies to implemented women-friendly human resource policies and tools under the Leaders4Equality initiative.
