Project Description
This project aims to enhance educational outcomes for girls through the completion of lower secondary school. Project activities include: (1) strengthening the governance of the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP); (2) training school staff to provide quality inclusive education and ensure the prevention of gender-based violence; and (3) engaging school communities in managing school improvement action plans and establishing school clubs for both girls and boys to promote girls’ rights and reduce stigma.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) strengthened access to quality teaching and learning for vulnerable students especially girls and adolescent girls; (2) strengthened teachers’ skills in classroom supervision and school management with a focus on gender-related issues; and (3) enhanced the quality of the school environment to meet the needs of girls adolescent girls and vulnerable students.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved at the end of the project (March 2023) include: (1) provided schooling to 10 100 students who benefited from textbooks hygiene products and services; (2) strengthened the capacities of 721 teachers (from grades 1 to 9) through training to build awareness of gender issues; (3) supplied support materials to 92 public schools to establish gender clubs; and (4) Rebuilt and rehabilitated 21 schools totaling 199 classrooms damaged in the August 2021 earthquake in the southern regions of the country (Sud Grand-Anse and Nippes).
