Project Description
This project seeks to improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of women and girls in the Philippines particularly those living in remote conflict affected and disadvantaged communities. In line with the priorities of the Philippines’ Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Law the project will support efforts to improve access to vital information and services particularly for family planning and help build the capacity of civil society and women’s rights organizations to effectively deliver programs and advocacies on SRHR and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention. Project activities include: (i) training of peer educators to raise awareness on SRHR and GBV; (ii) conducting targeted educational campaigns and interactive learning events in communities to promote positive sexual and reproductive health behavior particularly among women girls and boys; (iii) training of health providers to improve provision of sexual and reproductive health information and services particularly for family planning; (iv) providing technical assistance to health facilities to improve referral mechanisms for sexual and reproductive health services; (v) providing institutional support to civil society and women’s rights organizations to improve their organizational and programming capacity; (vi) providing assistance to develop knowledge products that can influence policies and practice on SRHR; and (vii) supporting advocacy campaigns on SRHR related policies at the national and local level. This project is expected to benefit over 85 000 individuals particularly women and girls.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) enhanced utilization of gender-responsive sexual and reproductive health information and services (public and private) by women of reproductive age adolescent girls and boys; and (2) improved effectiveness of women’s rights organizations to advance rights related to sexual and reproductive health and prevention of gender-based violence.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved at the end of the project (June 2025) include: (1) provided family planning services including contraceptives from trained health providers to 65 994 women of reproductive age. These include 24 787 new family planning users recorded from 2018 to 2023; (2) trained 13 349 peer educators (76% women) on topics related sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention; (3) provided information on SRHR and GBV prevention to 67 409 people (68% women); (4) assessed 15 partner-health facilities to provide gender-responsive health services; (5) supported 16 partner-health facilities to provide at least 3 modern methods of contraception; (6) the Philippine National Health Insurance Corporation accredited 12 partner-health facilities for family planning and maternal and neonatal care packages; (7) trained 439 health providers on gender-responsive health services; (8) provided capacity building grants to 11 civil society and women’s rights organizations. All reported increased confidence on their ability to coordinate and advocate for SRHR and GBV prevention; (9) developed 84 knowledge products including pulse survey reports research studies policy briefs and videos and used them to influence policy and practice on SRHR and GBV prevention; and (10) completed 34 joint undertakings and advocacy campaigns in partnership with government civil society and women’s rights organizations. These activities advocated for increased prioritization of SRHR and GBV prevention policies and programs at the national and local level.
