Project Description
The project aims to promote inter-agency cooperation mechanisms and communication systems to improve the ability to detect deny and deter travellers suspected of being foreign terrorist fighters (FTF) and their travel. Project activities include: (1) undertaking preliminary steps towards establishing Joint Inter-Agency Airport Task Forces; (2) organizing regional meetings; (3) supporting beneficiary countries to join the Airport Communication Project global annual meeting; and (4) conducting missions to analyze security architectures at airports and assess training needs.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include increased detection and interdiction capacities at selected international airports in the Middle East and North African region. It aims to contribute to implementing the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2178 (2014).
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (December 2017) include: (1) airport Communication Project received approval to begin capacity- building activities in Jordan Lebanon and Morocco; (2) established the Jordan Joint Inter-Agency Task Force; and (3) developed training curriculum for front-line airport officers for identifying and preventing suspicious passengers and foreign terrorist fighters.
