Project Description

The project aims to reinforce adult education and the use of sustainable agriculture in 52 rural communities in 8 departments of El Salvador and 43 rural communities in 4 departments of Honduras by the means of the following main activities: (1) providing agriculture extension services to youth men and women in order to develop and diversify ecologically sustainable and diversify food production enterprises; (2) providing inputs and marketing assistance for these small family agriculture enterprises; (3) enhancing the agricultural knowledge of community members and partner organisation staff; (4) providing men women and youth with certified adult education; (5) providing teacher-training workshops in adult education for regional facilitators and teachers; (6) providing young men and women with leadership training and certified vocational skills training; (7) providing training to community members technicians and masons in eco-stove building and maintenance; and (8) building eco stoves. The local partners in the project are the Centro nacional de trabajadores del campo (CNTC) in Honduras and the Asociación nacional de trabajadores agropecuarios (ANTA) in El Salvador.

Expected Results

The expected intermediate outcomes for this project include: (1) 1 046 men and 700 women in 95 rural communities in Honduras and El Salvador will improve their food security; and (2) access to the Ministry of Adult Education Basic Certificate and higher levels of education for employment for 1 123 men and women from 95 rural communities in Honduras and El Salvador.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved during the period of June 2012 to June 2014 include: In El Salvador (1) 71 communities with established agricultural cooperative enterprises; (2) 1 140 men and 360 women have attended agricultural workshops and received training; (3) 94 literacy circles with 1 828 men and 1 934 women were created; (3) 417 young men and 465 young women received leadership training; and (4) 270 eco stoves were built. In Honduras (1) 27 agricultural cooperative enterprises were established; (2) 23 literacy circles were created; (3) 153 young men and women received leadership training; and (4) 185 eco stoves were built.
