Project Description
This project aims to strengthen front line institutional capacity to address ongoing threats to maritime security including maritime terrorism and piracy in Malaysia. This project addresses these threats through the development of trans-regional capacities to gather collect analyze and share essential enforcement data in key target sectors. Project activities include: (1) establishing a dedicated project management team of INTERPOL staff to implement project elements; (2) conducting training needs analysis and training sessions on International Maritime Law and Regulation including a train the trainers session to build up sustainability; (3) conducting three one-week training sessions related to analytical counter-terrorism crime scene investigations and forensics; (4) purchasing digital equipment for evidence/data collection and extraction for analysis; and (5) supporting two special boat counter-terrorism security operations.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) provided law enforcement officials from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency with increased capacity in cooperation practice legal and investigational techniques intelligence gathering data analysis and information sharing; and (2) increased use of INTERPOL international databases by each category of participants while providing access to strategically crucial data by through specialized equipment.
