Project Description

The project aims to support sustainable economic growth and increase employment from the expedited movement release and clearance of goods and the associated reduction in trade costs. The Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation is a public-private partnership devoted to the implementation of the World Trade Organization’s agreement on Trade Facilitation (TFA). The Alliance is designed to bring together leading donors local and global businesses and international institutions to support commercially-meaningful and development-focused trade facilitation reforms in developing countries. In order to deliver results quickly the Alliance builds on existing networks and initiatives that support trade facilitation. Project activities include: (1) establishing sustainable multi-stakeholder dialogues on trade facilitation; (2) mobilizing public-private partnerships ; and (3) providing technical assistance in support of capacity building. In addition to donors private businesses from a range of sectors and geographies contribute to the Alliance’s activities by providing technical expertise and resources that support targeted reform efforts.

Expected Results

The expected intermediate outcomes are: (1) improved trade facilitation planning and performance measurement that is defined by the real impact of reforms from the perspective of the private sector; (2) practical and coordinated border reforms that support the implementation of key provisions of the TFA; and (3) accelerated implementation of trade facilitation reforms in developing and least developed countries.
