Project Description

This grant represents Canada’s long-term institutional support to the Global Centre for Pluralism. Global Centre for Pluralism uses these funds along with other donors’ funding to achieve its mandate. The Global Centre for Pluralism pursues its mandate through four core functions: (1) sustaining an international policy dialogue on pluralism in governance elections judicial systems media and education to help factions integrate in states at risk; (2) providing programs for academic and professional development; (3) fostering research and learning on pluralism; and (4) promoting and sharing the results of research and learning on pluralism. These activities target the developing world offering a platform from which existing organizations and experts on pluralism in Canada can reach an international audience. Canada’s support to Global Centre for Pluralism contributes to advance the development of free well-governed pluralistic societies in selected countries and regions around the world with a focus on developing countries.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes as stated by Global Centre for Pluralism include: (1) a rigorous extensive and expanding evidence base providing governments decision-makers and civil society actors with information and analysis to inform sound policies and programs directly improving their awareness of and responsiveness to pluralism issues; (2) strengthened international (and Canadian) responses to escalating levels of exclusion that may lead to social fracture and conflict ; (3) strengthened ability of local actors and institutions (government and civil society) to efficiently and effectively advance pluralism in their countries and regions; and (4) strengthened Canadian leadership and capacity to promote global pluralism.
