Project Description
This contribution represents a portion of Canada’s institutional support to the African Development Bank (AfDB). The AfDB is a multilateral development financial institution based in Abidjan Côte d’Ivoire whose mandate is to reduce poverty improve living conditions and mobilize resources for the sustainable economic and social development of its 54 African-country members. As articulated in the Bank’s long-term strategic framework: “At the Center of Africa’s Transformation 2013-2022” the AfDB’s two key objectives are: 1) inclusive economic growth; and 2) the transition to green growth. To achieve these objectives the AfDB focuses on infrastructure development regional economic integration private sector development governance and accountability and skills and technology.
Expected Results
Expected outcomes through the support of Canada and other international partners to the African Development Bank include: (1) enhanced access to infrastructure (transport water energy and ICT) in African countries; (2) expanded integration of African economies; (3) facilitated development of the private sector in African countries; (4) improved governance and accountability of African governments and institutions; and (5) increased supply of skilled workers and access to technology in African countries.
