Project Description
This project seeks to increase the resilience and resistance of local communities at-risk youths and military-aged men to violent-extremist-organization rule. The project supports the advocacy and mobilization strategies of 4 emerging partner activist groups opposing the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in Syria. Project activities include: (1) providing training on effective campaign principles; (2) collecting feedback from community members; (3) holding cross-group discussions on shared values and aims; and (4) creating a content management system.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) enhanced empowerment of groups to produce and disseminate their messages and campaigns; and (2) increased community resiliency to propaganda and violent-extremist messaging.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of July 2016 include: (1) one emerging activist group successfully recruited more than 45 activists in Aleppo Gaziantep and Idlib through in-person networks and its Facebook page; and (2) produced one countering-violent-extremism video out of 4 by a video-production group.
