Project Description

The project aims to enhance regional efforts combating terrorism among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states. It does so by increasing investigative resources enhancing specialized forensic capabilities and improving information sharing among law enforcement agencies of member states. Project activities include: (1) delivering a one-week session on specialized investigative skills; (2) delivering 2 three-day awareness workshops on forensic databases to facilitate best practices sharing between training experts; (3) delivering 2 two-week specialized trainings for developing investigative skills; and (4) conducting one 10-day operational event.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased investigative and forensic techniques capacity fostering robust case building and increasing conviction rates; (2) improved information sharing in counter-terrorism initiatives across ASEAN; and (3) increased use of The International Criminal Police Organisation’s tools and services.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved at the end of the project (March 2017) include: (1) 96% of officers (304) indicated an increase in Rules of Processing Data; (2) 80% of 97 respondents in post-training evaluation indicated workshops and training facilitated the work of their current job and 62% trained other officers; and (3) held 26 workshops and the training sessions including 2 high-profile operations reaching 556 policing professionals.
