Project Description
This project supports the 2024 Canadian conference on global health (CCGH). This conference is the largest annual Canadian global health forum. It provides a platform for Canadian and low-and middle-income countries (LMIC) global health practitioners researchers policymakers and community advocates to share knowledge experience and promote innovation and collaborative action to address key global health challenges. The CCGH aims to identify barriers and bottlenecks that may hinder attaining inclusive global health and universal health coverage goals. Project activities include: (1) providing sessions on current global health best practices and policies to demonstrate innovative research and programming. This includes gender transformative approaches and ways to address diverse inequities in global health; (2) organizing networking events for participants including for women in global health and students and emerging professionals to promote mentorship opportunities; and (3) providing grants to LMIC delegates to encourage participation in symposia workshops and presentations (oral and poster) to attend in person (if possible) or virtually.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased global health engagement collaboration and knowledge transfer for the diverse group of CCGH participants; and (2) increased awareness among participants of global health inequities including those by gender and strategies to close these gaps.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2025 include: (1) hosted 699 attendees including 279 in-person participants and 420 online. This includes 61% of participants from low-and-middle income countries (LMICs) 48% of women participants and participants represented various occupations including researchers (41%) students (26%) practitioners (19%) and policymakers (6%); (2) organized over 200 speaks including 10 distinguished plenary presenters and moderators; (3) conducted various events including 2 plenary sessions 14 symposia 6 workshops 91 oral presentations grouped by thematic focus and 94 poster presentations (70 in-person and 24 virtual); and (4) tailored a range of special sessions and networking opportunities to key global health priorities.
