Project Description

This project is part of the Technical assistance and aid effectiveness project which aims to deploy short-and long-term specialist advisory resources provide targeted technical assistance and mainstream gender equality in key areas and sectors in Tanzania. Global Affairs Canada (GAC) collaborates with the government of Tanzania civil society and other donors to identify manage and effectively implement technical assistance. The technical assistance aims to improve aid effectiveness across all GAC programming areas. Types of technical needs supported include: gender-sensitive strategic planning evidence-based policy research and development policy dialogue monitoring and evaluation public expenditure tracking public consultations targeted and special audits strengthened procurement and audit systems gender budgeting strengthened intergovernmental linkages budget consultations donor coordination research and analysis communications the provision of resources for studies workshops and training for the government of Tanzania and civil society partners engaged in GAC’s programming areas. This sub-project of the Technical assistance envelope consists in a grant to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the Capacity for development results and effectiveness (CDRE). This project aims to enhance government capacity at national and sub-national levels for effective planning implementation monitoring and reporting on results. The CDRE comprised 3 components: (1) enhancing effective development through aid coordination and mobilizing new development finance; (2) enhancing data systems to improve evidence-based planning policy-making monitoring and evaluation; and (3) supporting improved policy formulation and analysis.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) deepened knowledge of key sectoral and national issues; (2) increased alignment of stakeholders at all levels in advancing the country’s development objectives; and (3) developed effective partnerships and incremented higher levels of effective development in the country.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of March 2022 include: (1) increased communication and coordination between development partners and the government of Tanzania; (2) enhanced consensus within the various thematic working groups of the development partners group (health governance public finance management and education); and (3) developed the third 5-year development plan integrating the Sustainable development goals and Agenda 2030 in Tanzania.
