Project Description

This funding supports experts from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC)’s National Microbiology Laboratory (NML) to engage in activities to strengthen the UN Secretary General’s Mechanism for Investigation of Alleged Use of Chemical and Biological Weapons (UNSGM). Specifically this funding aims to enable the NML’s support to : (1) developing a biological crime scene management training curriculum; (2) drafting a new Action Plan to operationalize the UNSGM; and (3) delivering the biological sampling section for the UNSGM Experts basic training course.

Expected Results

The expected outcome of this project includes a strengthened UN Secretary General’s Mechanism for Investigation of Alleged Use of Chemical and Biological Weapons.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of March 2023 include: (1) the project made revisions to UNSGM Action Plan; (2) developed course material in cooperation with the International Criminal Police Organization on effective Biological Crime Scene Management; and (3) delivered biological sampling training.
