Project Description
This assessed contribution represents Canada’s long-term support to the Commonwealth Youth Programme which delivers the Commonwealth Secretariat’s youth work. The Commonwealth Youth Programme uses these funds and other members’ funding to achieve its mandate. The Youth Programme’s mandate includes: (1) supporting youth development engagement and empowerment in the Commonwealth; and (2) enhancing relationships between Commonwealth countries on youth issues. The Commonwealth Secretariat's current Strategic Plan (2017 to 2021) guides the work of the Commonwealth Youth Programme. It advocates for the effective participation of young women and men in the development process for social transformation and their full engagement at all levels of decision-making.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes as stated by the Commonwealth Secretariat for the Commonwealth Youth Programme include: (1) young people are engaged and empowered to meaningfully participate in political and development processes; (2) sport contributes to sustainable development health and peaceful and just societies; (3) policies are strengthened to sustainably reduce disparities and improve health and education outcomes; and (4) women girls and other vulnerable groups are empowered and protected against violence and harmful practices.
