Project Description
This project supports the planning and delivery of the 5th International One Health Congress held 22-28 June 2018 in Saskatoon Canada. Project activities included: (1) developing the One Health Congress program including selecting session topics and speakers; (2) promoting the event; (3) planning and delivery of a special plenary session on “Global Perspectives on Health and Security and the Future of Biological Threat Reduction”; and (4) publication of a White Paper summarizing Congress outcomes.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project included: (1) improved global awareness and knowledge of zoonotic disease threats and biological toxins with particular attention to dual use research of concern; and (2) enhanced global inter-sectoral collaboration across the human-animal- environmental health spectrum.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of July 2019 include: (1) 716 participants assembled from universities and research institutions government agencies international organizations and biosafety professionals to participate in the World One Health Congress; (2) conducted outreach before and after the event to over 15 000 individuals in the One Health Community; (3) published one White Paper in the Spring 2019 edition of One Health Outlook; and (4) a “Governments Group” established representing 19 national governments with the role of fostering international collaboration to mitigate biological threats.
