Project Description
The project supports TaxCOOP 2020 an international conference on tax competition and collaboration held online and in Montreal from October 13 to October 16 2020. TaxCOOP 2020 seeks to bring together representatives virtually from developed and developing countries governments international organizations business academia and civil society to discuss issues of taxation equity wealth distribution and fiscal reform. For the 6th edition of the conference TaxCOOP is introducing components specifically for developing countries by targeting themes that are particularly relevant to their context such as climate change and by ensuring the active participation of key stakeholders from developing countries.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved international tax cooperation and the international tax system for the benefit of developing countries; and (2) improved consideration by all countries in international tax negotiations including those conducted by international organizations such as the OECD of the social and environmental challenges faced by citizens of developing countries particularly women.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (December 2020): (1) over 2 200 participants took part in the TaxCOOP 2020 conference of which 141 represented developing countries in sub-Saharan Africa the Americas and Asia; (2) topics such as African taxation and constitutions international tax reforms and green international tax reform were discussed with experts from developed and developing economies; and (3) 35% of the participants from developing countries were women.
