Project Description
May 2022 – Humanitarian needs have risen drastically over the last decade but international funding for humanitarian assistance has not kept pace. The international humanitarian community has called for more informed needs-assessments in order to make efficient use of the humanitarian funding available. To respond to the advocacy of the international humanitarian sector experienced humanitarian partners have come together to develop the Joint Intersectoral Analysis Framework (JIAF) a new approach to analyzing humanitarian needs. The JIAF is managed by the International Organization for Migration. This grant represents Canada’s contribution to the JIAF. With the support of GAC and other donors the JIAF improves the way humanitarian actors jointly plan and respond to humanitarian crises. Project activities include: (1) developing JIAF tools and guidance documents for use in humanitarian field operations; (2) providing a transparent rigorous coherent and replicable process for needs analysis for the Humanitarian Programme Cycle; (3) providing oversight and support to humanitarian country teams to implement the JIAF; and (4) maintaining the continued buy-in of the JIAF partners and ensuring the well-functioning governance of the JIAF process.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved high-quality needs analysis to inform humanitarian response plans as well as other strategic response plans; (2) strengthened humanitarian capacity to more effectively meet the needs of populations affected by crises; and (3) improved prioritization of humanitarian donor resources to reach those most in need. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
