Project Description
December 2021 - Before the Taliban takeover the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan was already one of the worst in the world. Since the Taliban takeover humanitarian needs have worsened and the challenging operational context has been further complicated. In 2022 an estimated 24 million people will require humanitarian assistance due to conflict chronic food insecurity displacement the coronavirus (COVID-19) and climatic events. With GAC’s support in humanitarian emergencies World Food Program (WFP) focuses on providing targeted food assistance to reduce acute malnutrition and food insecurity and protect livelihoods. Project activities include: (1) distributing food; and (2) providing supplementary feeding for children under the age of 5 years as well as for pregnant and lactating women.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased access to food assistance for crisis-affected populations; and (2) increased access to supplementary feeding for vulnerable groups including children and pregnant and lactating women. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises.
