Project Description
This project aims to increase political empowerment and enjoyment of rights for women particularly young and marginalized women and those at risk in Pakistan. This project equips civil society and aspiring women leaders with the tools skills and experience to remove barriers to equal electoral participation as voters and candidates. This project also strengthens control over political decision-making that impacts their livelihoods and improves their well-being and meaningful involvement in civic and political life. Project activities include: (1) conducting evidence-based research on violence against women; (2) equipping women with new leadership skills; and (3) equipping male allies to support new women electoral leaders and have informed discussions around the legal framework for sustainable inclusion of women.
Expected Results
The expected results of this project include: (1) increased promotion and protection of women’s civil and political rights; (2) enhanced equitable and inclusive participation in democratic processes and civil life by women particularly young and marginalized women and; (3) improved inclusiveness and gender responsiveness of governments democratic institutions and civil society organizations nationally and sub-nationally.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2023 include: (1) 512 women completed “She Leads” training designed to raise women’s awareness and participation in democratic and civic life; (2) 101 women with disabilities participated in “Power to Persuade” training designed to develop their capacity to influence policy and advocate for their equal rights; (3) 159 men participated in the “Male Allies for Leadership Equality” program; (4) reached 6 217 women through community-based awareness raising undertaken by “She Leads” graduates; and (5) 102 146 women received their official identity documents enabling them to register to vote.
