Project Description

February 2022 - The ongoing crisis in Syria continues to be a driver of displacement and humanitarian needs throughout the country. Over eleven years into the conflict an estimated 14 million people remain in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. Years of active conflict and displacement have exacerbated protection risks and increased vulnerability for millions and humanitarian access to those most in need remains a significant challenge. With GAC’s support this project provides multisector lifesaving and gender sensitive support to up to 176 925 people. Project activities include: (1) providing primary and secondary health care services including sexual and reproductive health support; (2) providing integrated mental health and psychosocial services; (3) providing water sanitation and hygiene services including through the distribution of hygiene kits; and (4) providing psychosocial support and specialized services to survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) including by raising awareness on GBV prevention and child protection issues.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased equitable access for girls boys women and men to essential emergency gender responsive health and nutrition services; (2) increased access for girls boys women and men to GBV and child protection services; and (3) improved access to essential gender responsive life-saving water and sanitation services. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
