Project Description
March 2021 - The ongoing crisis in Syria continues to be a driver of displacement and humanitarian needs throughout the country. Over ten years into the conflict an estimated 13 million people remain in need of humanitarian assistance. This includes more than 2.7 Internally displaced people many of whom live in informal and overcrowded settlements where access to essential needs and services is inadequate. Years of active conflict and displacement have exacerbated protection risks and increased vulnerability for millions and humanitarian access to those most in need remains a significant challenge. With GAC’s support the project is providing health and protection services focused on women and girls in northeast Syria. Project activities include: (1) providing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) case management and focused psychosocial support services; (2) providing cash grants for especially vulnerable protection cases; (3) training women and girls in community based psychosocial support; and (4) providing a comprehensive package of sexual and reproductive health rights medial services.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased access of women and girls to protection sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) case management and focused psychosocial support services; (2) SGBV survivors and women at risk receive cash for protection; (3) increased access of women and girls to sexual and reproductive health services; and (4) increased access to child protection services and psychosocial support services. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
