Project Description

January 2021 - The ongoing crisis in Syria continues to be a driver of displacement and humanitarian needs throughout the country. Over ten years into the conflict an estimate 13 million people remain in need of humanitarian assistance. This includes more than 2.7 Internally displaced people many of whom live in informal and overcrowded settlements where access to essential needs and services is inadequate. Years of active conflict and displacement have exacerbated protection risks and increased vulnerability for millions and humanitarian access to those most in need remains a significant challenge. With GAC’s support this project works to provide multisector lifesaving and gender sensitive response to up to 154 710 beneficiaries. Project activities include: (1) providing primary and secondary healthcare services including sexual and reproductive health support; (2) providing integrated mental health and psychosocial services; (3) providing water sanitation and hygiene services including distribution of hygiene kits; and (4) providing psychosocial support and specialised services to survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) including raising awareness on GBV prevention and child protection issues.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased equitable access for girls boys women and men to essential emergency gender responsive health and nutrition services; (2) increased access for girls boys women and men to GBV and child protection services; and (3) improved access to essential gender responsive life-saving water and sanitation services. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
