Project Description
June 2023 – The food security situation is worsening for the 920 000 Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh who rely on humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs. The World Food Programme (WFP) the leading food security actor in Cox’s Bazar and Bashan Char reduced its food assistance for a second time due to severe funding constraints this year. The current monthly allocation is insufficient for Rohingya refugees to meet their basic food needs. With GAC’s support WFP is working to save lives and help reduce the suffering of people affected by food insecurity in Bangladesh. Project activities include: (1) delivering in-kind food assistance to crisis-affected Rohingya refugees; and (2) making multi-purpose cash transfers to cover immediate food and nutrition needs.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased equitable access to food and nutrition assistance for crisis-affected Rohingya refugees; and (2) increased equitable access to multi-purpose cash assistance for crisis-affected Rohingya refugees. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
