Project Description

The Refugee Education Council will advise and inform the development of the international Campaign as per the Minister of International Development’s mandate letter. In doing so it aims at enhancing development and implementation of gender responsive Government of Canada global refugee education campaign informed by technical; and strategic advice of refugee and displaced girls boys and youth. Project activities include: (1) conducting regular coordination meetings with Refugee Education Council and specialized sub-working caucuses; (2) providing training in leadership communication and advocacy awareness and skills to Refugee Education Council members; and (3) developing an Advisory Council-led Gender Responsive Action Plans.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include the following: (1) strengthened participation of refugee and displaced women girls boys and men living in the Global South and Canada to ensure gender-responsive Canadian global education programming diplomacy and evidence; and (2) improved utilization of innovative and impactful strategies to support quality gender-responsive education and learning.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of March 2023 include: (1) ensured the successful and equitable participation of members from diverse regions in Council activities; (2) amplified local voices with lived experiences among policy and decision-makers and established linkages with other initiatives for gender-responsive education; (3) developed mechanisms to integrate diverse Council voices in campaign activities. The project also trained and provided members with ongoing learning opportunities advisory dialogues with the Minister of International Development and developed gender-responsive action plans; and (4) integrated diverse youth perspectives through the launch of the Together for Learning Youth Manifesto and thematic overviews. Council members were featured in key communication materials including podcasts and case studies.
