Project Description
This project funds the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to deliver diagnostic kits equipment and training in nuclear-derived detection techniques. This is to support countries asking for assistance to tackle the worldwide spread of the novel coronavirus causing COVID-19.
Expected Results
The expected outcome for this project includes 27 emergency assistance packages procured and delivered to 21 countries. These packages include real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction diagnostic machines reagents and laboratory materials for testing.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (September 2021) include: (1) delivered 27 emergency assistance packages to 23 national laboratories and institutions in 21 countries; (2) delivered nine reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction diagnostic machines to three additional countries; and (3) delivered 30 000 testing kits to Cuba to increase their national diagnostic capacities.
