Project Description
September 2023 – On September 10 2023 Tropical Storm Daniel violently struck the eastern coast of Libya affecting cities such as Al Marj Benghazi and Derna. The heavy rainfalls flooding and strong winds resulted in the loss of thousands of lives and over 40 000 people displaced. The extensive damage to homes and critical infrastructure exacerbates existing regional needs. With GAC’s support the Canadian Red Cross Society (CRCS) dispatches solicited emergency relief supplies to support relief operations in Libya. These supplies include blankets hygiene kits and kitchen sets to meet the basic needs of the most vulnerable people impacted by the crisis in Libya.
Expected Results
The expected outcome of this project includes increased access to essential non-food items to support vulnerable and at-risk populations. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
