Project Description
This initiative aims to support the administrative decentralization of the education sector in Senegal. The initiative supports the government in strengthening the capacities of personnel at the local level. Project activities aim to strengthen the technical and management capacities in the education sector as well as the capacities needed to reform public finances. Project activities include identifying areas where training and equipment are needed recruiting and assigning personnel training and supporting personnel developing management tools and acquiring equipment. This project is a component of the Canada’s aid dedicated to help Senegal meet its development objectives in the education sector.
Expected Results
The expected intermediate outcomes for this project include: increased ability of managers in the decentralized education system to manage effectively.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2014 include: (1) the strategy to strengthen the deconcentration of school management its master plan and regulations supporting the implementation of deconcentration were validated and formalized; (2) the decision-making powers of deconcentrated authorities were strengthened and the areas of expertise of academy inspectorates (IAs) and education and training inspectorates (IEFs) were identified; and (3) roles and responsibilities were functionally distributed within the framework of deconcentrated school management. These results helped to improve the management practices of managers of Senegal’s education system at the central and deconcentrated level.
