Project Description
December 2021 - Before the Taliban takeover the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan was already one of the worst in the world. Since the Taliban takeover humanitarian needs have worsened and the challenging operational context has been further complicated. In 2022 an estimated 24 million people will require humanitarian assistance due to conflict chronic food insecurity displacement the coronavirus (COVID-19) and climatic events. With GAC’s support the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is working to providing life-saving assistance and protection support to displaced populations migrants and affected communities in Afghanistan. Project activities include: (1) providing emergency shelter and non-food item kits; (2) improving access to water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services; and (3) providing health services including mental health and psycho-social support.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved access to livelihood shelter and relief items; (2) enhanced access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities; and (3) increased access and availability of emergency health services. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
