Project Description
February 2021 - High levels of humanitarian need in Afghanistan fueled by the ongoing intra-Afghan conflict natural disasters the uncertain political landscape and displacement dynamics. In 2021 an estimated 18.4 million people require humanitarian assistance with primary sectors of concern including health food security and protection. With GAC’s support CARE Canada works to improve access to primary healthcare including sexual reproductive health services for underserved rural communities by establishing mobile health teams in three eastern Afghan provinces. Project activities include: (1) establishing three mobile health teams; (2) providing essential maternal health care and sexual and reproductive health services; (3) conducting awareness sessions on gender-based violence with targeted communities; and (4) distributing cash assistance to vulnerable households.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased access to primary life-saving healthcare including sexual and reproductive health services for vulnerable internally displaced people and host communities; and (2) improved access to life-saving protection assistance for the most vulnerable and crisis-affected communities. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in communities experiencing humanitarian crises.
