Project Description
This project funds the Center for Advanced Defense Studies (C4ADS) to strengthen international capacity to identify prevent and respond to attempts by North Korea to evade UN Security Council resolution sanctions. Project activities include: (1) developing a web-based platform to consolidate available open source information on North Korean sanctions evasion; (2) strengthening C4ADS' capacity to produce reports on entities known to have supported North Korean maritime sanctions evasion; (3) producing capacity-building resources for compliance and regulatory experts on maritime sanctions enforcement; and (4) establishing a mechanism that allow experts to request rapid-reaction investigations on entities suspected of being involved in North Korean sanctions evasion.
Expected Results
The expected results of this project include: (1) improved access by public and private sector experts to tools resources and international best practices to prevent North Korean weapons of mass destruction proliferation-related activities through the creation of capacity-building resources; and (2) increased ability by Canada its allies the UN Panel of Experts and the private sector to identify entities that are part of North Korean sanctions evasion networks.
