Project Description
This project continues Canada's support for the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources. Project activities include: (1) developing guidance documents to implement the provisions of the Code and its supplementary Guidance provisions; (2) developing national best practices on implementing the Code and its supplementary Guidance; (3) developing Code and Guidance self-assessment and peer review tools; (4) organizing and delivering a series of international and regional meetings on the safety and security of radioactive sources; (5) delivering training to national Points of Contact on facilitating close cooperation and coordination between Member States on the control of radioactive sources; and (6) maintaining the IAEA’s published list of national Points of Contact.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) strengthened national legal regulatory and policy regimes for control and accountancy of radioactive sources; and (2) strengthened regional and international networks to coordinate efforts to control radioactive sources.
