Project Description
This project provides legislative support from the Canadian Department of Justice to assist the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Member States in implementing nuclear security-related legal frameworks. Project activity includes providing subject matter expertise and guidance to a mock trial on implementing the criminalization provisions of the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism (ICSANT) into national legislation.
Expected Results
The expected outcome of this project includes a strengthened international capacity to implement the criminalization provisions of ICSANT to prosecute criminal acts involving nuclear or other radioactive material effectively.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of December 2022 include a staged mock trial in Vienna Austria in November 2022 to assist judicial officials with effectively implementing the criminalization provisions of the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism into national legislation.
