Project Description

This project supports capacity building initiatives by the World Institute for Nuclear Security directed at strengthening the competency of nuclear security officials. Project activities include: (1) promoting nuclear security and support centres; and (2) supporting the activities of the World Institute for Nuclear Security Academy.

Expected Results

The expected outcome of this project includes strengthened competencies of nuclear security personnel to effectively manage nuclear and radiological security threats.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of June 2018 include: (1) provided100 scholarships to the World Institute for Nuclear Security Academy; and (2) supported the revision of a technical document on establishing and operating a national nuclear security support centre. Member states seeking to establish a centre to build human resource capabilities use this document as a reference guide.
