Project Description
This project provides funding to the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) to conduct outreach and support activities for states in Africa Asia and the Pacific and Latin America and the Caribbean to participate in the Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty (FMCT) Experts Preparatory Group consultative process. Project activities include convening regional workshops on an FMCT in Africa Asia-Pacific and Latin America.
Expected Results
The expected outcome of this project is an enhanced awareness and knowledge of FMCT issues among stakeholders in Africa Asia-Pacific and Latin America and the Caribbean.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (September 2018) include: (1) the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs convened three two-day regional workshops on Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty. The first took place in March 2018 in Lomé Togo and was attended by experts from 22 francophone African States; (2) the second took place in March 2018 in Lima Peru and was attended by experts in 12 Latin American and Caribbean States; and (3) the third took place in March 2018 in Bangkok Thailand for experts in 12 Asia-Pacific States.
