Project Description
This project supports the World Customs Organization (WCO) to further develop and deliver Strategic Trade Control Enforcement (STCE) programming to priority partner countries. Project activities include: (1) delivering 12 commodity identification training workshops to operational managers and front-line staff; (2) delivering 12 training sessions to senior management in countries with low STCE maturity; (3) delivering three train-the-trainer sessions for accreditation of experts in Africa the Asia-Pacific the Caribbean Latin America and the Middle East; and (4) translating and distributing STCE implementation guide into Arabic French Russian and Spanish.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) strengthened national and regional customs information and intelligence exchange; and (2) improved coordination of international assistance providers to contribute to customs and border focused training.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2023 include: (1) 275% increase in Strategic Trade Control Enforcement cases reported on the intelligence-sharing platform in 2021 compared to 2018; (2) 500% increase in World Customs Organization’s (WCO) attendance and active participation in UN Security Council Resolution 1540 events; and (3) 50% increase in WCO’s attendance and active participation in events hosted by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
