Project Description
This project supports the organisation and implementation of a conference entitled “Turning Commitments into Action: Signature Initiative to Mitigate Deliberate Biological Threats in Africa ” which aims to advance the G7-led Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction's Signature Initiative to Mitigate Biological Threats in Africa.
Expected Results
The expected outcome for this project includes identified specific activities partnerships and programs of work across all four priority areas (biosafety and biosecurity; national frameworks; surveillance and epidemic intelligence; and non-proliferation) that can form the basis for a coordinated Plan of Action for the years ahead.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (June 2021) include: (1) developed near and mid-term milestones for increasing African Union Member State capacities that support and advance Signature Initiative objectives; and (2) identified concrete next steps and new collective actions to advance efforts under the Signature Initiative priority areas.
