Project Description
The project supports gender-sensitive endline data collection to produce new evidence on the effectiveness of peacebuilding initiatives including reaching women and vulnerable groups. The project focuses on Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) supported projects implemented by five UN agencies from 2020 to 2022 in conflict-affected regions in Darfur Sudan. The International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) implements this project on behalf of the UN Peacebuilding Support Office. Project activities include: (1) preparing qualitative interview questions and structured observations; (2) conducting visits to administer interview questions; (3) designing household surveys and training enumerators to complete the survey; and (4) performing quality assurance and managing data. This programming represents the current state of the art of project design to support a rights-based agenda. The evidence generated by this project will be applicable in Darfur and beyond providing a lasting public good both in the impact evaluation and the fine-grained dataset itself.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased gender-sensitive endline data; and (2) improved capacity to complete the impact evaluation of peacebuilding projects in Darfur. Fine-grained evidence on the effectiveness of PBF-supported programming would ensure the management of resources for continued peacebuilding in the region. It would also contribute to the greater literature on the efficacy of traditional interventions and their impact on peacebuilding in general beyond the specific context of Darfur.
