Project Description

This project provides subject-matter experts from the Department of Justice to increase nuclear and radiological security globally. Project activity includes providing expert guidance to multilateral workshops and exercises focussed on strengthening national legislative frameworks. These frameworks are required under various nuclear and radiological security treaties.

Expected Results

The expected outcome for this project includes increased knowledge by participants and other stakeholders of international best practices in developing national legislative frameworks to prevent detect and respond to acts of nuclear terrorism.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of the end of the project (March 2020) include: (1) the participation of a subject-matter expert from the Department of Justice in a four-day regional workshop in Kenya to promote the universalization of the Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material held in July 2019.
