Project Description
This project provides subject-matter experts from the Canada Border Services Agency to increase nuclear and radiological security globally. Project activities include: (1) providing expert guidance to multilateral workshops exercises and planning meetings organized by the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism; and (2) providing technical expertise to international consultancy meetings organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency on improving nuclear detection techniques.
Expected Results
The expected outcome for this project includes the improved ability of border guards security agencies and nuclear regulators globally to detect identify and prevent the illicit trafficking of nuclear or radiological materials.
Progress & Results Achieved
Result achieved as of the end of the project (March 2020) includes the participation of subject-matter experts from the Canada Border Services Agency in ten nuclear and radiological security capacity-building events globally including the International Atomic Energy Agency’s International Conference on Nuclear Security in February 2020.
