Project Description
November 2022 – Over 17.7 million Ukrainians are in need of humanitarian assistance. Many of them are not well prepared for winter. Canada has already provided significant support to the humanitarian response but a focused allocation would help address their winter-specific needs. With GAC’s support CARE Canada provide gender-targeted emergency support through an integrated services model including emergency psychosocial support and mental health interventions coupled with health services and emergency cash implemented in large part through local organizations. Project activities include: (1) establishing women and girls’ safe spaces including psychosocial and gender and sexual based violence case management; (2) providing protection services at collective shelters and internally displaced persons’ transition sites through frontline civil society organizations; (3) facilitating community mobilization and prevention on sexual based violence at collective shelters and transition sites; (4) providing health support for sexual and reproductive health and rights services; and (5) providing multi-purpose cash assistance including cash assistance for access to critical sexual and reproductive health services.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved access to women and girls’ safe spaces including psychosocial and gender and sexual based violence case management; (2) improved access to protection services at collective shelters and internally displaced persons’ transition sites through frontline civil society organizations; (3) increased community mobilization and prevention on sexual based violence at collective shelters and transition sites; (4) increased health support for sexual and reproductive health and rights services; and (5) increased access to multi-purpose cash assistance including cash assistance for access to critical sexual and reproductive health services. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
