Project Description

The project aims to help fill Peru’s human resources deficit in the health sector through assistance to the Government of Peru in its efforts to allow Venezuelan migrant health professionals to work in the Peruvian health sector. It assists the validation of their professional credentials and confirms their residency status in Peru. Project activities include: (1) the identification of Venezuelan medical professionals and confirmation that they meet the Peruvian government’s residency registration requirements; (2) support for the validation of professional titles for Venezuelan doctors nurses and psychologists; (3) support their registration in professional boards; and (4) provision of financial assistance for the payment of national exams and registration in professional boards. The project targets a minimum of 250 Venezuelan health professionals (of whom at least 50% are women) including doctors nurses and psychologists.

Expected Results

The expected outcome for this project is: increased equitable formal employment opportunities for qualified Venezuelan women and men refugees and migrants in a more accessible health care system as part of the COVID-19 response in Peru.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of March 2022 include: (1) 731 Venezuelan health professionals were supported with at least one of the procedures for obtaining professional credentials of which 611 were women; and (2) 74 health professionals were supported to prepare for interviews for formal jobs of which 53 were conducted for positions directly related to their professions and 12 were hired in health centres located in Arequipa Iquitos and Lima.
