Project Description

This project aims to support the engagement of civil society in community peacebuilding in Cabo Delgado and Nampula provinces. Project activities include: (1) strengthening community-based approaches for social cohesion resilience and peacebuilding in targeted communities; (2) identifying and training local government officials and community members particularly women girls and internally displaced persons on how to mitigate and prevent conflicts from escalating; and (3) providing human rights education to local stakeholders and empowering under-represented voices to promote the establishment of local peace committees and early warning and response mechanisms.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased confidence of women and men members of the community and internally displaced persons to participate in formal and informal conflict prevention and resolution efforts; and (2) increased local governments’ responsiveness to community initiatives for conflict prevention and peacebuilding.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved at the end of project (June 2023) include: (1) 435 Ambassadors of peace and 109 members of the Women’s academy completed conflict mapping exercises and developed 22 corresponding action plans; (2) 22 communities used conflict mapping towards conflict resolution; (2) facilitated community meetings between peace ambassadors local authorities and other community members that assisted in addressing ongoing conflicts in communities; and (3) established communication and alert mechanisms between communities and authorities enhancing responsiveness and conflict prevention capacity of local governments.
