Project Description
This project aims to strengthen community resilience in Cabo Delgado. It does this by improving access to education services and enhancing the skills of girls and women ages eight to 25 affected by the insurgency in the province. Project activities include: (1) providing literacy courses for women; (2) providing remedial courses for girls and women in and out of schools; and (3) sensitizing community members on safeguarding girls’ rights.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased participation of girls and women in gender-sensitive skills training and psychosocial support mechanisms; (2) improved gender-sensitive support mechanisms for the re-entry and reintegration of girls and young women into schools; and (3) greater use of community mechanisms to safeguard the rights and protection of displaced girls and young women.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved at the end of the project (March 2023) include: (1) trained 746 people in literacy (679 women and 67 men); (2) created 30 girls' clubs with 781 members (678 girls and 103 boys); (3) reintegrated 90 girls into the distance learning system 30 in each target district (Ancuabe Metuge and Montepuez); (4) provided tutoring classes to 1495 people (1193 girls and 302 boys); (5) provided menstrual hygiene management kit containing reusable sanitary napkins and soap to 600 girls between 12 and 18 years old in schools; and (6) created and revitalized 30 Community committees for child and gender protection.
