Project Description
This project aims to strengthen the Colombian National Police’s (CNP) capability to detect and respond to attempts to traffick illicit cargos of nuclear or radiological materials through Colombia’s major seaports and airports. Project activities include: (1) providing handheld radiation detection and identification equipment; and (2) providing training to CNP personnel on the operation and maintenance of the equipment.
Expected Results
The expected outcome for this project is the improved capacity of the Colombian National Police to detect and respond to attempts to traffick illicit cargos of nuclear or radiological materials travelling through Colombia’s major seaports and airports.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (October 2019) include: (1) access to 118 handheld radiation detection and identification devices for personnel of the Colombian National Police (CNP); and (2) improved knowledge and skills of 17 personnel of the CNP for the operation and maintenance of the equipment.
