Project Description
The project focuses on reprogramming the UN SanctionsApp to make it more user-friendly. The UN SanctionsApp is an interactive analytical tool available for free on mobile phone devices and the internet. It disseminates knowledge about the use and effectiveness of United Nations sanctions. The application or app can be used in real-time by policy practitioners scholars and members of the public interested in examining or understanding United Nations sanctions. It can also be used by those who are designing or implementing these sanctions. Project activities include: (1) implementing code enhancements to make the app more user-friendly; and (2) updating the app’s content including a colour-coding system to indicate the scope of sanctions and their potential impact on the population.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased usage of the App by elected members of the United Nations Security Council and United Nations Secretariat officials and government officials working on multilateral sanctions; and (2) enhanced capacity of the sanctions officials of non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (April 2021) is the reprogrammed UN SanctionsApp available for download directly from Apple and Google incorporating new content and enhanced features.
