Project Description
This project aims to reduce threats caused by landmines and other explosive remnants of war in Battambang Cambodia including improving women’s participation in mine action activities. Project activities include: (1) deploying one manual mine action team to undertake a minefield survey and clearance of 60 000 square metres of suspected contaminated land in Battambang; (2) conducting an intersectional gender-sensitive analysis to inform the Mines Advisory Group’s actions at the country program level; and (3) facilitating a workshop and providing recommendations on improved gender sensitivity in mine action for dissemination within the mine action sector and sharing with the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) the ability of women girls boys and men in one village in Battambang to access previously contaminated land for productive use free from fear of landmines and explosive remnants of war contamination; (2) advanced efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia in meeting the objectives of the National Mine Action Strategy and in complying with the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention; and (3) strengthened gender sensitivity in mine action programming.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (April 2021) is the ability of 72 residents (of whom 24 are women 31 are men eight are girls and nine are boys) of Ouda village (in the Rotonak Mondol district of Battambang province) to access nearly 82 000 square metres of previously-contaminated land for productive use which will benefit all 883 residents of the village.
